Managing Stories and Assignments

A Story, once made, is a hotbed of user activity. We’ve provided a host of useful features from within a Story to easily see and manage all the activity logged toward it. Here is also where you can give it more color. You can change your Story’s name, assign it an Epic, write a description, and much more. As such, we’ve provided everything you need to manage each Story’s progress from one convenient location!

Describe Your Story

1. Go to the Projects Page by clicking the link in the navigation bar on the left.

2. Next, check out a project by clicking on its name in the Project List.

3. Next, click the backlog button from the menu in the upper right.

3. In a Project Section, click the name of a Story under to pull up a modal window with a variety of advanced management options.

In here you can:

  • Change the story name - A short, unique, semantic description of your Story.
  • Assign an Epic - Each Story represents a small piece of an overarching project goal. An epic serves to manage tasks to meet that goal.
  • Give the Story a description - Every Story needs a little explanation. Share yours with a brief description here.
  • Add an attachment - Attach a picture, text document or video here.
  • Add comments - All team members assigned to this project can send and receive messages here.
  • Monitor activity - A brief synopsis of your team’s activity. Monitor a Stories update status and other useful events.
  • View more info - You can see and change all the information shown on the table under a Project Section.

Add an Assignment to Your Story

Being able to add assignments and edit them as your projects push forward is crucial to your success as a team. This is why we made it easy to add and edit assignments as a team. This is where you can use the Assignment feature to create and update assignments. You can think of an Assignment as a task, a single step toward completing your Story. See the Introducing Lyght chapter for more information on assignments and what role they play in your project’s journey.

1. Inside a Story modal, Click the "Add Assignment" button.

2. A new "Assignment" segment will appear where you can:

  • Add owners and due dates
  • Add checklist items
  • Delegate hours

3. You can add as many assignments as you like. Choose an owner, due date, checklist items, and a time estimate. Assignments will appear underneath a Story inside the Kanban, and any progress made toward them can be viewed in any of Lyght’s activity widgets.
